Crans-Montana/Valais: an important moment postponed…

It is now 7pm in Royal Cliff in Thailand. If coronavirus had not become a worldwide pandemic, this would be an important moment not just for Crans-Montana, but also for the canton of Valais and for our country.

In fact it is at this precise time, during the FIS International Ski Federation Congress, that Gian Franco Kasper, the president, would have announced the result of the FIS Council election of the host site for the 2025 Alpine World Ski Championships. A reminder, the candidates are Saalbach-Hinterglemm (AUT), Garmisch-Partenkirchen (GER) and Crans-Montana/Valais.

However both the Congress and the elections for the 2025 Alpine World Ski Championships have had to be postponed. The FIS will very soon be announcing when and where these events will be taking place. Crans-Montana/Valais is an outsider competing for organisation of the 2025 Worlds. The favourite is Saalbach-Hinterglemm, after losing out in 2018 to Courchevel Méribel (FRA) for the 2023 edition. But one thing is sure : the extensive and detailed bid book presented by the Crans-Montana/Valais bid committee (in the photo, executive director Marius Robyr and vice-director Hugo Steinegger) was very well received by the FIS experts.
