MARCO ODERMATT WINS THE SECOND GIANT SLALOM ON THE GRAN RISA

Andy Varallo: 'A spectacular Edition'

Alta Badia (South Tyrolean Dolomites/Italy) - Marco Odermatt had a picture-perfect Monday on the Gran Risa slope today. After his third place in yesterday's first giant slalom on the slopes of Alta Badia, the winner of last year's World Cup and current overall leader triumphed in the second race at the foot of the Dolomites, thus conquering his second success on this historic course after last year's (20 December 2021), as well as the fifteenth in his career (the tenth between the wide gates) and the fourth of the season (three giant slaloms and a super-G).

In second place, just like yesterday, was Henrik Kristoffersen (20 hundredths behind Odermatt), who was several times on the podium in Alta Badia: for the Norwegian athlete, this was his seventh podium place in Alta Badia (6 in the giant slalom and 1 in the parallel). On the lowest step Slovenian Zan Kranjec (0"92), who redeemed himself after having thrown away the first place in the first run on Sunday.

Only two Italians qualified for the second manche. The best was Filippo Della Vite, who finished thirteenth: "Another good race. I was the author of a solid second run, I made important points to start better in Adelboden, with the hope of doing a good first run immediately, to be closer to the best. Today was a struggle, four manches on this track in two days are tough". Twenty-third place, instead, for Giovanni Borsotti. Out in the first manche, on the other hand, Luca De Aliprandini, the last Italian to be on the podium last year (second behind Odermatt on 20 December 2021).

Very satisfied with the success of the event Andy Varallo, president of the Alpine Ski World Cup Alta Badia, for a two-day event that saw many people following live the races at the feet of the Gran Risa: "After the first races missed in the World Cup, everyone was sceptical. I must say that the weather helped us at first, but then the situation got complicated because on Friday the snow arrived and then the rain. We had to work overtime, but we managed it and it turned out to be a spectacular race on both days, with athletes and coaches delighted with the way the slope held up, which was also demonstrated by the athletes who, with high bib numbers, still managed to qualify for the second run. We sold out on Sunday and had a very good response today as well, despite it being a working day. In addition, we had a very good TV audience. There is a lot of excitement in the Dolomites and seeing them white is the perfect message to say that winter has finally arrived. Alta Badia is ready to welcome international tourism in the coming days'.
