Third Coordination Group meeting

The 2017 FIS Alpine World Ski Championships in St. Moritz (SUI) continue to show good progress as presented at the third Coordination Group meeting on 9th July 2014. Representatives from the 2017 Local Organising Committee, FIS, Swiss-Ski, television and marketing rights holders the European Broadcasting Union and its partner for sponsoring, Tridem came together to share the latest updates since the last meeting in December 2013.


Great Celebrations in Kitzbühel

The 2014 Hahnenkamm Downhill Champion, Hannes Reichelt (AUT), and Slalom Winner of 2010 & 2014, Felix Neureuther (GER), were officially presented with their Hahnenkamm gondolas over the past few days. FIS Honorary Member Erich Demetz

After 28 years, Erich Demetz chaired his last meeting as the Chairman of the FIS Sub-Committee for the Alpine World Cup during the FIS Congress week in Barcelona (SPA). In recognition of his outstanding services and commitment to the sport of skiing, he was named as FIS Honorary Member at the final day of the Congress. 


Åre to host the Alpine World Ski Championships in 2019

On 5 June 2014 at the International Ski Federation, FIS, congress in Barcelona, Swedish resort Åre was elected to host the 2019 Alpine World Ski Championships. Åre, most recently hosting the WSC in 2007 was elected with the narrowest possible margin: 9 votes against 8 for the sole competitor, Italian Cortina d’Ampezzo. The 17 delegates of the FIS Council elected Åre following a week of presentations and discussions with representation for the candidate committee in place.

Adelboden: Great Atmosphere

Adelboden has again completed a splendid weekend of racing: Despite difficult conditions – overly warm weather – with more than 3000 officials, we were able to provide fair conditions for the giant slalom and slalom.

25 Years of Cooperation Excellence and Progress

As with the World Cup, sports journalist Serge Lang initiated the idea for „Club 5“ in 1988. The founding members were organizers of the Alpine Downhill Classics: Val Gardena (ITA), Garmisch-Partenkirchen (GER), Kitzbühel (AUT), Wengen (SUI) and Val d’Isere (FRA).


World Ski Awards winners revealed in Kitzbühel

World Ski Awards is the sister organisation of World Travel Awards, which is heralded as “the Oscars of the travel industry”. Prizes were awarded for the categories of “Best Ski Resorts”, “Best Ski Boutique Hotels”, “Best Ski Hotels” and „Best Ski Chalets“.


Ski Classics Convention

Club 5 Meeting in Garmisch-Partenkirchen

The 16 organizers of the International Ski Classic Racing Event Organizers Association, Club5, met to take part in their 8th workshop. Three days in Garmisch were filled with a variety of topics. This exchange of experiences greatly helps those responsible for the respective venues to maintain the quality of racing organization and standards in general to the highest possible level, as well as ensuring a unitary implementation of improvements in subsequent years. The FIS Race Directors in attendance also contributed positively to the discussions.
