It had been 52 years since an athlete from the Kitzbühel district last won a Hahnenkamm race. For his triumph on the Ganslern slope, Manuel Feller from Fieberbrunn received his own Hahnenkamm gondola on Saturday.This is not something Kitzbühel sees every day. “You did it,” said Michael Huber, president of the Kitzbühel Ski Club, looking out at the crowd. “Today, Fieberbrunn is taking over the Hahnenkamm.”

In the long history of the Hahnenkamm Races, Giovanni Franzoni is only the fourth Italian downhill winner. For his glorious run in January, he was honored with his own Hahnenkamm gondola on Saturday.

One year after the historic achievement on the Kandahar G.A. Agnelli slope, the Sestriere Ski World Cup Organizing Committee and the Municipality of Sestriere have unveiled a sculpture dedicated to the extraordinary milestone reached by the American champion who, at the Colle in the Vialattea ski area, broke the barrier of 100 Alpine Ski World Cup victories.

Sunshine and calm winds, a great atmosphere and fantastic performances from both athletes and those working behind the scenes summed up the World Cup weekend in Åre. “We can proudly look back on a very successful competition weekend,” says Olle Danielsson Klippinge.Despite warm temperatures and a minor storm in the days leading up to the event, fantastic work from volunteers and race organisers ensured that both the arena and the slope were in top condition ahead of the first start on Saturday.
