St. Moritz 2017

Third Coordination Group meeting

The 2017 FIS Alpine World Ski Championships in St. Moritz (SUI) continue to show good progress as presented at the third Coordination Group meeting on 9th July 2014. Representatives from the 2017 Local Organising Committee, FIS, Swiss-Ski, television and marketing rights holders the European Broadcasting Union and its partner for sponsoring, Tridem came together to share the latest updates since the last meeting in December 2013.

Since that time, the Organising Committee has made significant progress in several areas. Plans were buoyed by a June decision from the Council of the Canton Grisons, which approved CHF 5 million for the renovation of the Alpine Skiing infrastructure at the resort.

Thanks to that decision, the 2017 World Championships will have top-quality facilities for athletes, journalists and fans and will leave a lasting legacy for the resort long after the World Championship is finished.

During the meetings, it was clear that other plans for the FIS Alpine World Championships 2017 are moving along well in all areas from infrastructure to marketing. The look and feel of the event is being incorporated into the town, while areas for festivities in the town, including medal ceremonies and media centers are being finalised.

FIS Secretary General Sarah Lewis commented after the meeting, “St. Moritz 2017 is working hard to maximise the legacy of the Championships for the benefit of the community and the Canton. It is very positive to collaborate with the Organising Committee who is going about the detailed planning and preparations with great competence and enthusiasm."

The next test for the St. Moritz Organising Committee will be its annual Ladies’ World Cup race in January 2015 where some of the infrastructure for the World Championships will already be tested.

The FIS Alpine World Ski Championships 2017 will be held 6th-19th February 2017. For more information on the event, please visit www.stmoritz2017.com
